“Kappa Bashi Tool Street” is a shopping area about 800 meters north and south between Asakusa and Ueno. At the beginning of the Taisho era it is believed that people dealing with old furniture shops on both sides of the river which was made in the Edo period called Shinbororagawa. Shinboribagawa was cryptic after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1912, and the car electronics ran on it until 1972. The two bridges of Kappa bridge and Kikuya bridge over this river still remain as the name of the intersection. And in the same period as the reconstruction after the Great Kanto Earthquake, shops related to “food” began to gather, mainly in shops dealing sweets and instruments around this Kabane bridge. In addition, since the 1950s after the war, it has developed as a distinctive specialty shopping district where stores of various industries accumulate corresponding to the needs of the occasional dining industry.
