Nagahama City is known as the "Village of Kannon" as many Kannon statues are preserved there, especially in the northern part of the city.The Kannon statue of Nagahama is deeply rooted in the local community and is closely linked to the lives of the people who live there and the local culture, and has been carefully preserved and passed down to the present day.
Tokyo Nagahama Kannon-do, which opened in July 2021 in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, promotes Kannon cultural faith with the aim of increasing the number of supporters of the preservation and passing on of the lifestyle and culture that exists alongside Kannon.
Meanwhile, Nagahama City in Shiga Prefecture and Taito Ward in Tokyo have deep historical and cultural ties, and have concluded an urban cooperation agreement to utilize the resources and characteristics of both cities to revitalize the cities and promote sustainable development, as well as to promote exchanges between residents and others.
As part of this, a panel exhibition has been held in Asakusa, Taito Ward since fiscal year 2021 to promote awareness of Nagahama's Kannon culture.This year, we will be holding our first panel exhibition.
This exhibition will focus on the Kannon statue that represents Nagahama City.This event will allow you to learn about the Kannon faith that has been preserved throughout history, and will also serve as an opportunity to encounter the Kannon of Nagahama.
